Prenatal Certification

It’s been a BUSY year for Dr. Kristin. After completing and passing a series of 9 examinations, she became Perinatal Certified by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association earlier this summer. According to the ICPA, the certification is “…the next step for our pregnancy and perinatal chiropractors. Webster Certification starts this journey with an in-depth understanding of the importance of chiropractic care during pregnancy; Perinatal Certification builds with comprehensive expertise of care throughout the perinatal period from preconception through postpartum.” Throughout the 72 hours of instruction, Dr. Kristin got the opportunity to learn about topics like these below:

-Advanced Perinatal Clinical Applications: “addresses perinatal chiropractic research, pelvic balancing techniques, outcome-based exams, and tools for engaging both birth providers and mothers in your community.”
-Connecting the Parents, the Baby, and Supportive Care Providers: “make a powerful connection with moms (and dads) and children to build rapport, trust, and understanding…Develop an understanding of the physiological mechanism of adaptation in a salutogenic model.”
-Navigating the Highs and Lows of the Perinatal Family Practice: explore the complexities of the chiropractic family practice. Learn effective ways to work with pregnancy and infant loss, terminally ill children and the effect it has on families, subluxation patterns and neurology.”
-Perinatal Care with Webster Certification: “provide advanced techniques and evidence-based care to the perinatal patient. The course includes an in-depth approach to a physiological birth and the chiropractic relationship.”
-Perinatal Health: Epigenetics and Parental Nutrition: “Explore the relationships between epigenetics, nutrition, fertility and family health. Understand the latest findings in epigenetics and the roles of sugar and pH in health and disease. You’ll learn how optimal nutrition can improve fertility, how poor nutrition can weaken fertility and the effects of nutrition during and after pregnancy.”
-Perinatal Neuroimmunology: Patterns of Interference: “review normal and abnormal immunology, the current immunological research pertaining to the children and pregnant women and immunology concepts and controversies.
-Postpartum Care: Improving Diaphragm, Core, and Pelvic Floor Function: Starting with the initial assessment, and continuing through care…a personalized, holistic approach to help moms recover and rebuild strength during this important postpartum period.
-Pregnancy, Birth, and Infancy from the Baby’s Perspective: a greater understanding how Birth Imprints affect the physical health, emotional bonding and psychological well-being of the infant and child. Review comprehensively the myriad decisions new parents must make considering the baby’s perspective and what resources they are seeking to help create a healthy foundation for their family.
-The Essentials of Chiropractic: Education in the Perinatal Period: innovative and advanced approaches in teaching parents about chiropractic care in the perinatal practice.

As a nerd, Dr. Kristin definitely enjoyed it, but the best part is being able to have the most up-to-date information and ways to help her Mommas and future Mommas.  Is there a topic you’d like Dr. Kristin to learn about or do you have any questions for Dr. Kristin?  We’re here to help!  Let us know!
